Safety applications up to SIL4
Elemaster R&D holds a paramount position as design center catering to the railways sector, with a strong emphasis on developing solutions for functional safety applications, including those meeting SIL4 standards (highest level of safety integrity achievable for railway applications).
One example of the SIL4 application is a system for monitoring train wheel slippage which provides advanced safety features, redundancy, and compliance with international standards. This system not only protects passengers and personnel but also helps reduce train downtime and improve resource management.
Another example is the control unit for hydrogen cut-off. The product is able to accurately detect abnormal accelerations and halt hydrogen supply. Its robust design and adherence to international SIL2 safety standards provides a reliable and immediate response to abnormal train conditions.
Elemaster is a partner in the European research project Safe4RAIL, which was launched in 2016 under the Horizon 2020 Shift2Rail Joint Undertaking. The aim of the project is to develop new train standards and safety concepts for Ethernet networks with functional safety up to SIL 4 level in order to increase reliability, reduce the number of control devices and lower costs over the entire life cycle.
Italy’s first hydrogen train: Elemaster contributes to safety and sustainability
Elemaster, together with a major player, developed central electronic components for the hydrogen-powered train that ensure the control and safety of the drive technology. An advanced safety system automatically closes the hydrogen valves in the event of irregularities to prevent accidents. At the same time, the system increases the energy efficiency and thus the sustainability of the hydrogen train.

RAILWAY CERTIFICATION
Elemaster R&D has a Quality Management System (QMS) certificate according to ISO/TS 22163 (IRIS standard) for the railway sector which require a rigorous design and testing process to ensure safety, reliability, and interoperability.
